Solar farm site clearance aerial video

Here’s a short video of a site we cleared for Lawtech and United Utilities.

The area of land was covered in trees and brash. We used one of our teams of arborists and RC Forestry flails to prepare the site for the installation of the solar panels.

Unimog Hire with Operator

Our Mercedes Unimog with 10 inch Jenson Front Chipper is available to hire. It also has a front 2.3m flail, chapter 8 signage and beacons ready for highways. Supplied with a qualified and fully insured operator.

Power and efficiency on and off road

The Unimog was developed over 50 years ago as an agricultural support vehicle and it remains a stalwart partner for all off-road applications, including farming and forestry.

img_3594The key benefit is that the Unimog is a type-approved commercial vehicle for both on and off road operations: and that means it is legally licensed to haul produce, machines and equipment on roads as well as off road.

The Unimog’s legendary off-road capabilities, along with central tyre inflation for extra traction and reduced ground damage, allow the driver/operator to leave the road and cross all types of terrain – with no need for specialist off-road traction units or transferring loads, resulting in, increased productivity and efficiency.

With powerful PTO’s, plus the payload and power to carry a wide range of attachments, the Unimog will drive chippers, spraying and spreading equipment, mowers, hedge cutters – the list is almost endless.

Tractor and Operator Hire

Our Reform Metrac H8X is ideal for cutting vegetation on banks, often where other machines cannot operate safely. It has a range of equipment including a side arm flail and a mounted rotary flail deck. The cab is enclosed and the vehicle is chapter 8 sign written for road and highway use.

We also have a 170hp New Holland with a VERSI flail from McConnell. Their design is ideal for the highways, amenities and the ground-care sector. Named for the outstanding cutting versatility it offers, the VERSI-series arm enables operators to cut on either side of the tractor – switching from left to right and back at the touch of a button.

Designed for specialists and professional contractors, the VERSI-range was originally created for highway mowing because it allows operators to safely cut both the nearside verge and the central reservation while travelling in the same direction as the traffic.

The ability to switch cutting positions quickly and easily, coupled with a rotating arm and flail head offers benefits in numerous situations and enables VERSI machines to thrive in a variety of confined and challenging environments.

Our Case 115 uPro tractor is fitted with a 5.5m side arm flail and is ideal for not only roadside work but also excellent for vegetation clearance and hedge cutting. It can easily be fitted with flail and mowing decks.

Bird netting

Tree and hedgerow netting should be carried out before bird nesting season. However, netting can be carried out during the bird breeding season if an experienced ecologist can confirm that there are no active nests present.

Ideally vegetation clearance, such as hedgerow removal, should be timed to avoid the bird nesting season, which runs from the beginning of March through to the end of September. This is to prevent adverse impacts to any active bird nests present and therefore ensure wildlife legislation is not breached.

In some circumstances a hedgerow may have been identified as requiring removal, possibly to permit an anticipated development or the hedgerow occurs along a pipeline route, however the hedgerow cannot be removed prior to the bird nesting season as the relevant permissions or land access consents have not been granted. In these circumstances it may be deemed appropriate to try and prevent birds from nesting within a hedgerow by covering the hedgerow in netting. Should the consent to remove the hedgerow be granted during the bird breeding season, the hedgerow can be removed without affecting any active nests.

The netting process isolates the hedgerow or section of hedgerow that is required to be removed and approximately 3m either side (this will ensure no birds nest close to the section to be removed). The netting used is similar to debris netting used on building sites (often to cover scaffolding), and is secured at both the sides and edges of the hedgerow with pegs and cable ties. It is important to ensure that no gaps or tears occur in the netting itself, or where the netting meets the ground. Any such gaps could allow access for birds to enter the netted hedgerow and build nests.

Although no method can guarantee birds will not be able to nest within a hedgerow this process has been used on many occasions to successfully allow hedgerows to be removed during the bird breeding season, and therefore avoid major delays in projects and developments.
